Class 59/66 Livery List

Class 59 & Class 66 (Shed) Locomotive Livery List

With 455 in total built since 1998, the class 66 is the UK’s most populous diesel locomotive. It can be seen nearly anywhere on the UK rail network working trains from intermodals to aggregates, passenger railtours and engineering trains. Not all 455 class 66s are in service, as many have transferred for use abroad, or have been scrapped.

The 5 UK operators of class 66 locomotives are DB Cargo, who operate the majority of the 66 fleet, Freightliner, GB Railfreight, Direct Rail Services and Colas Rail.

We have listed the class 66 locomotives below, along with their livery and name if applicable.

The below list is work in progress and you can contribute by posting in the comments any which are missing or incorrect (turnaround time 24 hours). This list will be regularly updated.

Thanks to all commenters that have helped to keep the list up to date. Looking for more liveries of things that go ying? Check out the class 69 livery list.

Can you include the livery for ex-66411 (now in Poland numbered 66013), but not included on your list?

Also do you know which Polish/German Freightliner ’66s are in G & W livery? – I saw one that I could not identify in Hamburg Harburg last week. I suspect its one of the original Polish ones ( not an ex GB one), but can’t seem to find out which ones are in G & W livery now.

Freightliner 66503 is undergoing a repaint into Freightliner Orange at Eastleigh, whether it keeps it’s nameplate “The Railway Magazine” is unknown as yet.

”66791 GBRF Beacon Rail Blue soon to be in mainline service.”

Any further news on this one (and the other two), or have things come to a grinding halt like everything else?

Cheers, Robby

Thanks Matt for your instant reply! That’s what I assumed would happen.

Just noticed that the first one 66790 arrived in this country on 3 June last year, so in a couple of weeks it will celebrate its first year’s anniversary on British soil. So no-one seems to be in a great hurry to get this one up and running!

Sorry Matt, I don’t have a photo that I can post, the loco looks ex works throughout stood outside at Toton, it has in white vinlys: DB Delivering For Our Key Workers: then people standing in Multi-Coloured gowns for a third of the length of the loco.
The loco is stored at present at the time of posting, but not for much longer I would imagine.
