Hull Trains to run to St Pancras, CrossCountry LNER Class 43 Hire-Ins and LNER Diverts via Joint Line
This August 2019 Bank Holiday weekend will see some interesting stock hire ins across the country including some rare opportunities to see diverted trains. Over the weekend of Saturday 24th August and Sunday 25th August.
Hull Trains
Hull Trains’ fleet consists of 4x class 180 DMUs and 4x class 43 HST power cars ( ex Great Western Railway, still in dynamic lines blue I think).
Hull Trains will be running via the Midland Mainline to London St Pancras International, instead of their usual route to Kings Cross via the East Coast Mainline.
Typically, Hull Trains operate services to Kings Cross via the ECML but this weekend will see them running via Bedford. Instead of running the usual route through Retford and down to London, they’ll go via Toton and Leciester.
It’s not clear which diagrams will be operated by Adelante 180 and which will be operated by Ex FGW/GWR class 43. We’ll try and update this page with the confirmed traction closer to the time but can’t guarantee. It’s always nice to see a class 43 in London, especially the blue ones, since the GWR HSTs on GWML Finished earlier this year.
Hull Trains will also be taking on the new Hitachi class 802s with 5 joining their fleet in 2020.

They can be found below. The Hull Trains services only run to St Pancras on Saturday and Sunday, and there are 3 diagrams each day. Saturday sees a shunt move to Kentish Town and back.

LNER Trains
Passengers are advised not to travel with LNER over the bank holiday weekend as major engineering work takes place at Kings Cross and Newark.
Services will run between Edinburgh and Leeds to Peterborough via Doncaster. This will be the last planned time HSTs will diverted on the “Joint Line” which runs from Doncaster to Peterborough via Sleaford and Lincoln.
CrossCountry Trains
Two LNER sets will be hired to CrossCountry to relieve pressure on services. XC will be hiring in 2x LNER HST sets (2 + 8).
